Directory of State Board Members Board meeting was called to order on Friday, October 30th at 5:15pm. The meeting was held at Region 5 Mini Congress.
Meeting was closed for Meet Site Selection and Judge Discussion. The meeting was open for the agenda items and the following were present:
1. Tom Koll - Talked about the age division for Level 10 and why they split them the way that they did. If they would of left them the old way 112 out of 113 would of made nationals out of one age division. Because of this they tried to even the age divisions out. It was also brought up about whether Larry Nassar was tracking the elite injuries and will also track the Level 10 National Region 5 injuries. Tom will look into this. 2. Al Singer - Talked about the new program that he made up for the level chairs. He distributed a copy to each one of them. 3. Level 10 age groups can be decided by each state. We elected to wait on this issue to see where Illinois numbers fall. 4. Rick Kelleher - Web Page: Newsletter is now on the web page. Starting in Novemeber it should be on the web page before you will actually get it in the mail. Because of putting the newsletter on the web page please send your information for the newsletter to Teresa by disk or email her at TMillmore@aol.com. 5. Illinois R&P- Will be emailed to all board members for final check and then will be distributed one per club. Each judge will also receive on free copy. All extra copies will be $5, but you may make copies on your own. If you need an additional cover please send $3 for shipping to Norbert Bendixen 200 S Shaddle Mundelein Il 60060. 6. Tom Powers resigns - Tom was our level 7 chair and has resigned effective immediately. - Randy Parrish will be the interim level 7 chair until the next election. Motion by Wendy, Suzie seconded, passed (1 abstained). 7. Hilary Carlson talked about the judging assignments for level 9/10 State. There will be 3 judges assigned per panel. One will be the clerk and they will alternate between levels. The State Board will vote on the judges at a later time. We will also take the same approach of voting for the best judges at the lower level state meets. 8. Level 4 - Quincy was the only bid. - Quincy Gymnastics will host the Level 4 State Invite at his gym with the entry fee being $15. Motion by Wendy, Suzie seconded, unanimous. 9. Level 6 State - Midstate/Naperville/Oswego all bid on. - Oswego Park District will host the Level 6 State. Motion by Wendy, Don seconded, unanimous. 10. Level 7/8 State - Energym was the only bid. - Energym will host the Level 7/8 State at the University. Motion by Don, Dave seconded, passed (2 abstained). 11. State Congress for next year - We will wait and see if Regional Congress is in Illinois and then decide if we want to have a State Congress. 12. State Training Camps - - We will have another State Training Camp on June 26 & 27, 1999 that will go up for bid. Motion by Todd, Don seconded, unanimous. 13. Norbert is checking in on having an Illinois State Gymnastics Day at the Chicago White Sox Park. 14. Judges Training Videos are available through the National Office. 15. NAWGJ National Judges Cup - The Illinois NAWGJ would like to help support the national judges cup. If there is anyone interested in attending it is in Pheonix, Arizona. The Illinois NAWGJ will pay for maximum 4-4 man teams entry fees and team Illinois leotards. If we have more interested then this we will have a lotto to pick who gets to go. This is for levels 4-10. See Hilary for more information. 16. Regional Meeting Updates. - Level 8 Regionals will be at Midwest Gymnastics and Cheerleading in Dublin, Oh. - Level 9 Regionals will be at Connersville, Indiana. - No Level 10 Regional bid. - Selection of judges for regionals . - TOPS - The top TOPS kids will be invited to the Regional Elite Clinic. - Apparel Fund is doing well and strong. - International trip trying to be planned. - Training camps are doing well financially and in attendance. 17. Norbert reported that Directives from the National Office states that Appointed Board positions are 1 year terms and reappointment will occur on an annual basis. The Illinois Board will evaluate positions on a yearly basis, and this will occur during our summer meeting. 18. The next board meeting will be on March 13-14, 1999 at the Level 6 State. If there is a need for one sooner we will meet at the St Jude meet in Peoria on January 16,1999.
