COMING
SOON:
We are getting ready to introduce an all-new
Illinois USAG Women's Gymnastics website. It was developed to
improve the organization of the information on this website and to improve
communications throughout the Illinois gymnastics community. This
transition is currently planned for the first week of April. We hope
to minimize any disruption in accessing the website. The URL will
remain the same for the new website so while the new one is being loaded,
the website will not be accessible. We apologize in advance for any
inconvenience. Be sure to stop back and take a look at the
redesigned website and give us your feedback!

National Rules & Policies
Correction:
An error has been identified in the National R & P, Part Two Section 1, page
19. On the chart, the Level 8 mobility score to advance to Level 9 should
be 34.00, not 31.00. A revised version will be posted but the books
have already gone to print so those cannot be corrected.

NCAA CHANGES RULES REGARDING

The NCAA has recently adopted legislation which permits, effective August
1,
2002, receipt of prize money based on an athlete's finish in a
competition,
subject to certain conditions. Below, please find links to the NCAA's site
which detail the changes. Maintaining eligibility for the possibility of
college athletic scholarship is a very important matter for those athletes
who may qualify. Should you have any questions, please contact the NCAA

Elizabeth Tricase and I Just had a meet in Canada called the SPRING CUP,
and if you look up www.gymn.ca
they have two articles on the meet.
Liz placed 2nd all around (behind Ashley Miles) it was a two man team from
each country and Liz & Ashley placed 1st. The next day at Event

against some very very good competition. It was Awesome!

JUSTIN TORONYI
In April, 2001 Justin Toronyi, a 17-year-old gymnast, from Palmer’s
Gymnastics, had just realized a long-term goal of qualifying to the Class
I Junior Olympic National Championships. If you were every lucky
enough to see him train or compete, you would realize he was a gymnastics
rising star. Then his fortunes took a terrible turn.
While on the way home from a “practice meet” training session, he was
involved in a serious automobile accident. The accident left him
paralyzed from the chest-down. He was scheduled to represent
Illinois at the National Championship, only six days later.
Now, after a grueling seven months of rehabilitation and physical therapy,
he is completing his senior year at Lake Park High School in Roselle,
Illinois. And he NEEDS Your HELP. His ongoing medical costs
and home-adapting expenses are escalating. That is why a special
Fundraising event has been created to benefit the JustinToronyi
Trust Fund.
All donations can be sent to:
Justin Toronyi Trust Fund
Harris Bank – Roselle 110 E. Irving Park Rd. Roselle, IL 60172
For further Information, pleas contact Yvonne Palmer at (630) 628-0877 above
link.

Elizabeth
Caden, a former gymnast from Oak Park and River Forest High School,
was tragically killed in an automobile accident on Friday, November 30th.
The car she was riding in was hit head on when a drunk driver drove
down an exit ramp and into oncoming traffic. Elizabeth and her
roommate from school were killed.
For more information about the tragedy and the victim, click the above

Mari-Rae
Sopper Memorial Gymnastics Fund
A former Illinois
gymnast was lost to the tragedy of September
11. Mari-Rae was on the doomed flight that crashed into the pentagon.
She was on her way to her new coaching position at University of
California Santa Barbara. To read more about her, click on the link
above.
To save the UCSB gymnastics program in her honor, they are trying to
raise $4 million dollars by April 2002. The
purpose of the memorial fund is to continue Mari-Rae’s mission to save
the University
of California Santa Barbara women’s gymnastics program. If this is
not possible, the funds will go to young gymnasts in the Chicagoland and
Washington D.C. areas whose families are unable to pay for lessons. If you would like to make a
donation, please send to:
